Performer
As a performer, Jane Edgren’s experiences encompass a wide range of classical singing, including opera, oratorio, symphonic music and recital. Whether a soloist, producer or chorister, she has performed repertoire across the spectrum, from the Baroque to the 20th century composers.
As a soloist, Jane sings with a clear, warm and inviting voice that draws the listener in from the very first note. Her musicality and attention to words and poetry reveal her as an artist who brings relevance and beauty to the music she sings.
Currently, as a Lyric Spinto Soprano, Jane specializes in classical concert repertoire particularly suited to her voice, including the Britten War Requiem, Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, the Mozart and Verdi Requiems, Vaughn Williams Dona Nobis Pacem, and Rossini’s Stabat Mater.
Jane developed and launched a new concert series that introduced audiences to many different genres of music in an informal and informative atmosphere. The first concert, Discover! A World Songbook, included innovative video translations projected onto large screens during the performance and posted on Jane’s YouTube Channel prior to concert. This innovative transformation of the traditional Voice Recital created both an educational and artistic experience.
Jane was also the artistic director and performed in a series of concerts entitled Expressions of Faith, which presented solo and small ensemble pieces from major choral works. Two unique concerts explored the musical inspiration of various composers as expressed in their sacred works, through the solo and small ensemble vocal music of choral and orchestral masterpieces; the known and unknown, the old and the new.
- Faith Journeys of Bach, Haydn, Mozart & Mendelssohn: an exploration of the music’s spiritual roots with scriptural references and commentary on the musicological and historical perspective of the work, its composer and their faith journeys.
- Remembering the Saints: Voices of the Requiem, a benefit for the victims of Hurricane Katrina: selections included solos, duets, quartets and ensemble pieces from Handel’s Messiah, the Verdi, Fauré, Rutter & Lloyd Webber Requiems, along with scripture readings, poetry and prayer.
